The Headlock is a very instinctual and common hold used by laymen when engaging in a physical altercation. However, the Headlock is a poor form of control over an opponent, because the lock is not configured to restrict air or blood flow to the brain, and it leaves his hips completely unprotected from takedowns. Use the opponent's weak control against himself by collapsing his posting leg and sitting to the floor. If the opponent mistakenly continues holding onto your head, his arm is vulnerable to being attacked with an armbar.
